David visitò più volte il nostro Dipartimento, in primo luogo per la collaborazione scientifica e la fraterna amicizia che lo legavano a Paolo Salmon, da lui ricordata anche nel 2019, in occasione del convegno in memoria di Paolo.
Matematico di grande valore, David era un appassionato conoscitore della lingua italiana e delle numerose testimonianze della cultura ebraica presenti nella nostra città.
Con affetto e gratitudine, tanti di noi lo ricordano non solo per il magistero matematico, ma anche per i generosi consigli e le splendide conversazioni sui più diversi temi.

With deep sadness the Mathematics Department of the University of Bologna wishes to offer profound condolences on the passing of
Prof. David Buchsbaum.
David was a frequent visitor to our Department, especially for the scientific collaboration and the close friendship with Paolo Salmon.
David recalled their friendship and collaboration in 2019, on the occasion of the Memorial Conference for Paolo.
David was not only an esteemed mathematician of the highest rank, he was also passionate about the Italian language, and quite accomplished in it.
He was also very knowledgeable of the Jewish cultural heritage in our city in its many aspects.
Many of us in the department remember him with affection and gratitude, not only for his vast mathematical impact, but also for his generous help and for the wonderful conversations he shared with us on so many different topics.
